LaFlare Mail (Vol 1.5)

Yo, what up. It's your boy Drip Bayless back to give you what you've been craving - some updates on the wide world of golf.

When I think of July, I think of Independence Day and all things America: hot dogs, cold beer, fireworks, and links golf. The 150th Open Championship was held this year at the birthplace of golf - The Old Course at St. Andrews. Saturday looked like a backyard game of king of the hill with every player in contention vying for the top spot and getting knocked down periodically, but Sunday looked to be mano y mano between an Australian and a Northern Irishman. When the dust settled, Schrodinger's LIV Golfer, Cam Smith, hoisted the Claret Jug with just one thought on his mind - how many beers will fit in that bad boy. What a perfect transition to the world of LaFlare Golf.

LaFlare Golf had its busiest month yet with three different events!

The 3rd annual TC Summer Classic took place mere miles away from LaFlare Golf's birthplace (Melton Lake Marina) at historic Centennial Golf Course. As you all know, the TC Summer Classic has devolved into the unofficial battle of QB1, pitting Tyler Clark against Scott McMahon to see who has the hardest time leaving the glory days in the past. At the end of the day, NEITHER was victorious due to neither QB leading their team to victory - leaving the winners as The Wing T Offense! Also, the lowest single round score by a golfer was set by Josh Gambrell with an absolutely blazing 63. Word from the course is that he got a (illegal?!) new driver and was using that to his advantage.

Down I-75 was the second LaFlare Chatt event, Mongo Madness. Forty-four golfers descended upon Brainerd Golf Course, and once all the scorecards were turned in, the team scores ended in a 5.5-5.5 tie. J$ had to bust out the TI-83+ to come to the conclusion that the Mad Men laid waste to the Fighting Mongeese by a total score of 887 to 883. Whoever's setting up these teams is certainly making them even.

Speaking of that, the boys made their way to a third and final July event out at the best par 3 in Tennessee, William's Creek Golf Course, for Little Larry's Lil' Course Shootout. AGAIN, James had to bust out the abacus to double- even triple-check his math as this one came down to just a few strokes difference as Little Larry & The Gang defeated The Little Legends by a score of 888 to 892. Whew!

After an eventful month, there is yet again another Top 5!

Knoxville

  • In 5th place is none other than Mr. 63 himself, Josh Gambrell with 112 Tour Points.

  • In 4th place is LaFlare's adopted dad, Mr. Willie Taylor with 117 Tour Points.

  • In 3rd place is our King, Hayden Freels with 118 Tour Points.

  • In 2nd place is Terry Jay, who's had the fortune of being on five of the last six winning teams with 120 Tour Points.

  • And finally, in 1st place is the Outlaw, Rickey McElhaney. The man has separated himself from the pack with an astonishing 15-point cushion over second place with 136 Tour Points. Will it hold up? It certainly seems insurmountable, but there's still a ton of golf to be played.

Chattanooga

  • In 5th place, we’ve got J-Rat, Jordan Ratledge in his best position yet.

  • In 4th place is Richard “Dick” Brown who picked up a ton of points at Mongo Madness.

  • In 3rd place, Boston Weisgerber is 6 only points away from the leaders.

  • At the top, we’ve got a tie for first between Joey Hanson and Tyler Vickery. Joey has showed out in both of his performances, and T-Vick is also 2-0 in Chattanooga. Stay tuned to see how it all shakes out!

BILBO’S MONTHLY FEATURES

Member Spotlight

There’s much more to read about our Member of the Month on the website, including his philosophy on the value of taking more swings, and who he’d like to play a round with. So make sure to check out the Member Spotlight each month and let us know who you think is deserving of being featured next month.

Blooper of the Month

There’s just something about LaFlarians working on their game in the backyard. Unlike Brent Tittsworth, Jesse didn’t get injured in the process. He may have knocked out a window in his neighbor’s brand new house though. If you’re in the market for a new house, you might want to ask your realtor if a LaFlarian lives next door.

Upcoming LaFlare EventS

We’ve got great events coming up in both Knoxville and Chattanooga, so make sure to checkout the Events Page to register for those events.

Knoxville- All-Star Weekend @ Whittle Springs (8/13)

Chattanooga- The Dade County Super Scramble @ Trenton (9/17)

Words to live by

Imagine Rev Run sitting in the bath tub typing out a motivational e-mail on his Blackberry to his entire contact list at the end of an episode of Run’s House. That’s kind of what our Words To Live By is, except it’s Bilbo Swaggins on the couch with a MacBook.

There you have it. Safety first. Always carry a 1-iron.

Yours Truly,

DRIP BAYLESS & BILBO SWAGGINS
